The Ups and Downs of Farming
Hi Folks,
Sorry I have not blogged lately. We have had a tough winter but are now in recovery mode. Remember the wind in December that lasted f o r e v e r, well that took the roof off several bays of the big greenhouse. Of course that is when the temperature was down in the teens and wind chill much lower. We lost all the crop in the big greenhouse. We were able to feverously pick and bring vegetables to the house and save some for a few markets and the Fall CSAs. (Sorry for the abundance of tomatoes and lettuce and lack of cucumbers, beans etc. for the last few weeks of the Fall CSA.) We had lots of green tomatoes, just ran out of time, light and warmth to pick them. We also had a fire in the little greenhouse 2 days prior to this wind event. We count our blessings it was fixed and ready to start new seed when the wind took the big greenhouse. So everything is on schedule for the Spring CSA with many hours of pulling out old crop and starting new. We hope you are having a blessed new year and we look forward to seeing you this Spring.
