2012 CSA

November 10, 2011

Friends of VanScoy Farms,

Our Fall CSA is drawing near the end and we are starting to plan for our 2012 CSA.  We had some crops do very well this year and others not so well, in turn we are making some changes to hopefully have an even better yield of those crops next year and maintain the quality of what we did well on this year.  All this will be done with our practice of natural, chemical free produce straight from our family farm to your family dinner table.

For the 2012 season we are keeping the CSA price the same as 2011.  We will continue to offer up to 30 weeks of fresh fruits and veggies in 10 week increments.  So depending upon your preference you can sign up for all 30 weeks at a price of $750, and if you would sign up and pay before December 15, 2011 there is a $50 discount.  Or if you will be traveling in the middle of the summer or have your own garden with our option of 10 week increments your family can enjoy fresh early produce from our greenhouse starting roughly the 1st of May, then take weeks 11-20 off to have your own produce and sign up for weeks 21-30 to finish off the year with fresh produce through the middle of December.   Each 10 week segment is $250 which comes out to a very affordable $25 a week, which also includes the peace of mind of having safe chemical free produce.  We have our whole family helping in the greenhouse so keeping everything chemical free helps keep us healthier and safer and offers you a safe and clean source of fresh vegetables that will keep your family healthier and happier.

This year we are planning on expanding our strawberries even more to help insure that we will be able give every CSA member fresh strawberries every week.  Also we plan to keep the staples of our CSA such as all the varieties of beef steak and small tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and lettuce.  We are going to try and expand to include some pie pumpkins again and possibly some melons in the later weeks of the CSA as well as the white, red and sweet potatoes.  We are going to keep growing small quantities of onions, radishes and cabbage to be able to add in as extras throughout the season.  The main idea of our program is to offer our members a reliable consistent supply of staple produce that you already know how to prepare; only we add a twist to the staples with different varieties to give you different looks and flavors.  This makes it easier for you to plan meals for the week and shopping since you have a rough idea of what you will get in the CSA, you can then shop at your local farmers market with other vendors to pick up additional produce we don’t grow.

We do have a program in place that will give you a free week of produce for referrals to friends and family.  If they do buy a full 30 week CSA and give us your name you will receive a free week of produce.  You will be able to pick it up at any point during the CSA program when you would need extra produce.  If you are very ambitious if you would refer 30 CSAs we will in turn give you a full 30 weeks of free produce!

We would like to say thank you all of our current and past CSA member for supporting our farm and we look forward to offering fresh produce for a long time to come.
